In this series, I transform into a chola — a figure rooted in a complex and often misunderstood subculture within Mexican Chicano communities. Cholas are known for their bold fashion, sharp eyebrows, fierce attitude, and deep ties to street culture. They represent both strength and survival, often shaped by the social and political landscapes of their environments.

I’ve always been fascinated by the subcultures within my Mexican heritage, and this project gave me a chance to explore that curiosity. This transformation allowed me to step into a space of cultural reflection, both honoring and examining the layers of Mexican identity. With the help of method acting, detailed makeup, and my brother’s convertible, I created Lola.
